Skatepark opens January 11

Concord's skateboarding community is looking forward to Saturday, Jan. 11, when the city's new skatepark officially opens. The park is located near the BART tracks on Galindo St. at Cowell Rd. The entrance to the park is at San Miguel Rd. and Cowell Rd.

The grand opening celebration begins at 11 a.m. with remarks from Mayor Mark Peterson and a ribbon cutting. Following a short demonstration by professional skaters, the park will be open to the public. Skaters are advised to bring helmets, elbow pads and knee pads. Only those with the proper safety gear are allowed to use the park.

The grand opening event will include free food, music, vendor booths and interactive simulator games. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. In case of rain, the grand opening will by held Sunday, Jan. 12.
