Navy prepares environmental document for Army project
The U.S. Navy is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) on the 115-acre portion of the Inland Area of the Concord Naval Weapons Station identified for transfer to the U.S. Army. The property is located at the far west end of the base near the Port Chicago Hwy. entry gate. Four facilities will be constructed on the property to house support services for the port operations in the Tidal Area of the base, also transferred from the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Army.
The Navy is preparing the EA pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 to address the potential environmental impacts of the construction and operation of facilities in the site. The proposed facilities are an administration building, an electrical substation, a fire station and a railroad equipment/engine maintenance shop.
This action in no way affects the process the Concord City Council is leading with the community to prepare the Reuse Plan for 5,028 acre site. The area in question in outside of the Reuse Plan area.
