Youth, teen registration open for Camp Concord at South Lake Tahoe

Youngsters ages 8 to 14 seeking the adventure of white water rapids, the joys of star-filled nights and fun-filled days, and the freedom to explore the wilderness while enjoying some of the comforts of home are invited to register for a week at Camp Concord at South Lake Tahoe this summer. The program is operated by the city of Concord Community and Recreation Services Department and is open to Concord residents as well as non-residents.

Camp Concord is located between Lake Tahoe and Fallen Leaf Lake in the Sierras. Campers stay in clean, rustic cabins, enjoy healthy meals and have the opportunity to explore the pristine mountain environment.

Camp Concord has been offering youth and teens traditional outdoor activities and adventures for over 40 years. Camp activities include arts, crafts, archery, hiking, rafting, horse-back riding, swimming, canoeing and crawdad fishing.

Campers board a bus on Saturday morning in Concord and spend a week guided by highly trained staff making friends, learning new skills and experiencing the wonders of nature. Campers can choose from one of six week-long sessions, held from June 21 to August 2.

Teens between the ages of 14 and 16 are challenged to take their camping experience to a new level with two special teen camp programs. These programs are held in a two-week format and are designed to develop leadership potential, teach basic job skills, and to provide a fun experience in a safe outdoor environment.  These Leaders In Training and Counselors In Training programs include interactive workshops, overnight camping, organized camp activities and environmental service projects.  Under the guidance of trained staff, teens learn to lead small group activities and work with campers of all ages.

This summer, for the first time, Camp Concord is offering a Basketball Skills Camp in conjunction with SportStrong Youth Sports Foundation. This specialty camp is only available during the week of June 15 to 21. It offers the ideal environment for youth to enjoy both basketball and the camp experience. Space is limited and early registration is advised.

Registration for all sessions is now open. For more information, contact the City of Concord Community and Recreation Services Department at (925) 671-3273. The Camp Concord brochure is available on-line at www.campconcord.org.
