Concord Senior Life Style and Resource Fair April 18

Concord’s Senior Center volunteers and staff present the Healthy Life Style and Resource Fair for mature adults on Friday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle.

The event is based on the concept that the best formula for being and staying healthy is keeping active, eating well and feeling good about one’s self. The fair is designed to highlight ongoing services and activities available through the Concord Senior Center.

Concord’s Commission on Aging, the Concord Senior Citizens Club, AARP, Walgreens, and the Concord Senior Center staff will work as partners to highlight a variety of services conveniently offered under one roof. Health screenings and informational booths about senior housing, transportation, leisure activities and other services will be available.

Fair participants can pick up a fee copy of the Senior Center Guide, which explains how to access local programs, activities and services.

Fair participants may also sign up for a class, a trip, or register for the Personal and Home Safety Workshop on June 12, 2008.

Tap dancing, belly dancing, line dancing, Dancercise, hula, and ukulele entertainment will be performed by Senior Center students. Don’t miss performances by the Monday Strings in the Wisteria Hall during the fair.

Attendees can also pick up a free Vial of Life at the fair.  The Vial of Life project is designed to provide emergency responders with patient information. Identification stickers guide medical personnel to the vital information. AARP and Walgreen's pharmacists will be on hand to discuss medications and help individuals fill out a Vial of Life form. Registration for medication counseling is required by calling 671-3320, and participants are to bring in their medications to the counseling session.

John Muir Health will provide balance and memory screens. Pre-registration is required for the memory screen by calling 671-3320.  The Diablo Heath System Pharmacist, AMR, Monument Community Partnership Senior Neighborhood Action Team, Concord Senior Citizens Club, and the Concord Commission on Aging are sponsors of the program.

Throughout Contra Costa County, the number one issue for senior citizens is transportation. The Concord Commission on Aging invites participants to stop by the commission’s booth to learn about various transportation issues.

The C.C. Cafe, which serves lunch Monday through Friday in the Center’s Wisteria Hall, will provide a healthy meal. The Concord Senior Citizens Club is sponsoring lunch for 200 attendees. Attendees must make a reservation for lunch by April 10 by calling 671-3320.
