Concord Senior Center celebrates 5th Anniversary with Good Ole Days celebration

The Concord Senior Center will celebrate its 5th Anniversary with a Good Ole Days Celebration on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is co-sponsored by the Concord Historical Society, Concord Senior Citizens Club and the Concord Senior Center.

Highlights of the day include live entertainment, a Concord Senior Club historical display, speakers on Concord’s wineries and farming families, a farming artifact display, and a children’s area with hands-on activities, homemade toy making, and a jump activity.

House Blend Barbershop Quartet will perform at 1 p.m. Old fashioned root beer floats and hot dogs will be available for $3.

The Concord Historical Society has lined up a number of speakers for the day. Paul Larson will lead a round table "reminiscence" discussion.

Speaker John Keibel’s topic will cover the formation of the Concord Naval Weapons Station and the farming families that once owned the property. Lloyd Crenna’s talk will center around the wineries that were in Concord in the 1890 to 1930 period, with special emphasis on the Pietro Crenna winery on Almond Avenue.

The Historical Society will also be offering walking tours of downtown Concord. Participants will meet at Todos Santos Plaza. Pre-registration is required by calling 671-3320.
