Concord Community Reuse Project Draft EIR now available
A Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Concord Community Reuse Project is now available for review and comment through July 11, 2008. The DEIR addresses the seven alternative concepts for reuse of the 5,028 acre site that is part of the former Inland Area of the Concord Naval Weapons Station.
The seven alternatives for the site were developed with extensive input from the Community Advisory Committee and the public through a series of public workshops beginning in May 2006.
The alternatives identify a range of different land uses at the site that include residential, commercial office, commercial retail, community facilities/institutional, and parks, recreation, and open space, as well as different locations and intensities of use.
The document can be reviewed at the Concord Community Reuse Project Office at Concord Civic Center, 1950 Parkside Dr. or on the Concord Community Reuse Project Web site, www.concordreuseproject.org.
Copies of the document are available on compact disc by sending an email request to Pamela.Laperchia@ci.concord.ca.us or by calling (925) 671-3001. Printed copies will also be available for review after May 19 at public libraries in the cities of Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and Pittsburg.
The city will also conduct a pubic hearing to receive oral comments on the Draft EIR near the end of the 60-day review period.
After the review and comment period is completed, the input received will be used during the next phase of the planning effort to help arrive at a preferred Reuse Plan. After the preferred Reuse Plan is selected, it will be addressed in a Final EIR that will be subject to public review and comment. The comments on the Final EIR will be considered by the Concord City Council, acting as the Local Reuse Authority, before it takes action to certify the Final EIR and approve the Reuse Plan
All comments on the Draft EIR should be directed to Michael W. Wright, Director of Community Reuse Planning, City of Concord, 1950 Parkside Drive, MS/56, Concord, CA 94519.
