Concord celebrates Woodstock anniversary with Country Joe on June 4

Concord's Thursday Music and Market summer series will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock with a special guest appearance by Country Joe McDonald on June 4. The folk singer and Berkeley native performed at the original Woodstock in 1969.

Last summer, Country Joe led Concord's Guinness Book World Record night, when 2,052 guitarists came together in Todos Santos Plaza to break the world record for most people playing the same song at the same time. The mass rendition of "This Land is Your Land" put Concord in the records book.

The June 4 concert is performed to the backdrop of the popular Farmers' Market, in the park from 4 to 8 p.m.

The celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock continues in Concord on Thursday, August 6 with a performance at the Thursday Music and Market series by Lydia Pense and Cold Blood. This East Bay rhythm and blues band, popular in the '60s and early '70s, has been remixed for a new era, but still fronted by the band's original vocalist Lydia Pense. After the music, it's a compilation of '60s sitcoms on the Todos Santos big screen.

Events continue all summer at Todos Santos Plaza. DadDay in the Plaza on Sunday, June 21 at 2 p.m. will feature the Dr. Loco Band. Also on the calendar are the annual July 4th Parade and Festival, and the National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Todos Santos Plaza is located in downtown Concord on Willow Pass Road between Mt. Diablo and Grant streets. Free parking is available in two municipal garages. The Grant Street Garage entrance is on Salvio Street between Grant and Colfax streets. The Todos Santos Parking Center entrance is on Salvio Street between Galindo and Mt. Diablo streets.
