Camp Concord at Lake Tahoe offers affordable family vacations and a meaningful Youth Camp experience

In this difficult economy, many families are thinking hard about summer vacation plans. The City of Concord's Family Camp at South Lake Tahoe may hold the answer for those who are looking for a more economical choice than a cruise or several days at a theme park.

Family Camp's all-inclusive per night price structure includes all meals, hot showers, accommodations in comfortable cabins, organized excursions as well as campfires and optional activities for children.

The camp is located in the Sierras, near the shores of Lake Tahoe and Fallen Leaf Lake. For over 40 years, the City of Concord has offered families the spectacular scenery of the El Dorado National Forest and the excitement of the great outdoors. Families register for camp by the day, providing flexibility for a weekend stay or a longer visit.

Regardless of the State of California's proposal to close several popular state parks around Lake Tahoe including D.L. Bliss and Emerald Bay campgrounds, families interested in camping this summer can count on Camp Concord to exceed their expectations with an all inclusive vacation experience that takes the "roughing it" out of camping.

Space is still available for nearly every week at camp this summer. It's easy to check availability through www.concordreg.org or call the Community and Recreation Services Office at (925) 671-3404.

Family Campers can choose to participate in organized camp activities or explore the Lake Tahoe Basin on their own, returning to a hot meal, hot shower and a comfortable cabin. Trained staff offers campfires, canoeing, swimming, volleyball, brunch on the beach and other activities.

Families are accommodated in one of 18 cabins with convenient access to restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities, and the main lodge. All cabins have electricity and will sleep up to eight campers. Many moms and dads love the fact that all meals are provided as part of the camp fee.

Aside from traditional camp activities, families have use of the Green Room Lounge, offering a quiet escape for reading and games. A big screen TV/DVD is also available for kids' movies. Twice a day, camp staff provides specialized activities for children ages 4 to 12 during Kid's Hour.

Spaces are also still available at Youth Camp, a traditional week-long recreational program also offered at Camp Concord for children ages 8 to 14, and for Teen Camp, two-week sessions for ages 14-17.   These programs offer a life-changing positive experience based on the philosophy of adventure, acceptance and achievement.  Campers are guided by responsible, caring camp counselors dedicated to delivering a fun, enjoyable, and memorable week at camp.

Camp Concord is accredited by the American Camp Association and is consistently ranked as one of the top ten family camp vacation destinations by Budget Travel magazine.  Last year, readers of BayAreaParent magazine recognized Camp Concord as a favorite summer resident camp destination.
