Concord appoints board and commissions members
At its meeting on June 22, the Concord City Council made appointments to the Appeals Board, Community Services Commission and Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission.
Appeals Board incumbents William M. Abend, Robert Delucchi and Fredric N. Wright were reappointed for terms ending February 28, 2012. Applicants Thomas Midanek and Cesar A. Sifuentes were appointed for terms ending February 28, 2011.
Members of the Appeals Board interpret state law and uniform building codes on construction standards for the City. Board members make a determination of suitable alternate materials and methods of construction and hear appeals of orders, decisions, interpretations and determinations made by the City Building Official. Meetings are held on an infrequent basis.
Community Services Commission incumbents Norman J. Freitas, Jeanette Green and Jack D. Thomson were reappointed to the commission. Applicants Carlos J. Balladares and Grace Hernandez were appointed for terms ending June 30, 2011 and Mark Weinmann was appointed to serve as an alternate for a term ending June 30, 2010.
The nine-member Community Services Commission reviews funding requests, advises the City Council on the allocation of General Fund monies for human services and the expenditure of Federal Community Development Block Grant monies for programs and projects, monitors the performance of funded programs, and identifies housing, neighborhood, and social service needs within the community. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month and more often during the spring.
Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission incumbent Kandi Lancaster was reappointed for a term ending June 30, 2011. Mark Sinclair, who was serving as an alternate, was appointed to serve as a full committee member for a term ending June 30, 2011 and Lisa Alessi was appointed to serve as an alternate for a term ending June 30, 2010.
The seven-member Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber to act in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters pertaining to public parks, open space, and recreation; reviews and recommends Council action to develop, modify, and/or improve City parks; assists in the promotion of recreational and parks programs; assesses parks and recreation needs; and recommends capital improvement projects and fees related to parks and recreation.
