Guy Bjerke in Concord's new mayor, Helen Allen is vice mayor
Each year, the five-member Concord City Council elects one of its members to serve as mayor for the coming year. At the Dec. 7 City Council meeting, Vice Mayor Guy Bjerke was selected to serve as Concord's mayor for 2010, taking over from Laura Hoffmeister.
Councilmember Helen Allen was elected to serve as Vice Mayor. Councilmember Mark Peterson will serve as Redevelopment Agency Chair and Councilmember Bill Shinn will serve as Redevelopment Agency Vice Chair.
Guy Bjerke, a Concord resident since 1989, was appointed to the City Council in September 2007 to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Councilmember Michael Chavez. He served on the Concord Planning Commission from 2001 until his appointment to the City Council, and chaired the commission for two years.
