Concord Human Relations Commission presents annual awards


The Concord Human Relations Commission (HRC) will present its 23rd annual awards and recognition on Monday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 1950 Parkside Drive, Concord. A reception will immediately follow the awards presentation.

The HRC will present nine awards to deserving people who have contributed to the betterment of human relations in Concord. They will receive the following awards:

Lifelong Achievement Award: Linda Verdin for her volunteerism at the Rainbow Community Center.

Community Involvement: John and Sharon Ouimet and Donald and Bea Ouimet for their selfless support to grieving families and volunteerism in the community.

Humanitarian: George Conlow for over 20 years of volunteerism at the Share Food Pantry.

Education and Awareness: Blue Star Moms for providing care packages to the military troops overseas.

Youth Scholarship: Erika Reames for her volunteerism with STAND! Against Domestic Violence and Mayra Estrada  for her volunteerism in the Monument corridor.

Women Making a Difference: Anna Chan for harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables from neighborhood trees to give to food pantries.

Random Act of Kindness: Richard Hartmann for intervening in a pit bull attack.

Ruth Galindo: Rose Howard for her outstanding volunteerism through St. Vincent de Paul and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at John Muir Medical Center.
