Hawaiian Fusion brings traditional music, dance, food to Concord

"Aloha!  If you anticipated taking a vacation to Hawaii but the economy has swallowed up most of your savings, don't fret. We will be bringing Hawaii to you!" assures Avis Connolly, director of the Concord Senior Center and organizer of the annual Hawaiian Fusion fundraiser.

For the past eight years, the center has been importing some of the Islands top slack key artists, ukulele wizards, and vocalists to perform locally to sell-out crowds of Hawaiian music aficionados.

In maintaining that excellent tradition, this year's show will feature Hawaii's current top-selling vocalist, Amy Hanaiali'i, a four-time winner of the coveted Na Hoku Hanohano (Hawaii's Grammy equivalent) Female Vocalist of the Year title and three-time recipient of the Album of the Year award. She has also opened for such legendary artists as Carlos Santana, Willie Nelson, and Boz Scaggs.

As an added bonus, Halau Hula Ke Aolani O Kamaile will perform a variety of Polynesian dances under the able direction of Kumu Shawna Noelani Bresler.

The event will be held at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road in Concord on Friday, Sept. 3. The cost of the evening's event is $45 per person.  All seats are reserved, and early reservations are suggested for this sell-out event.

The ticket price includes a lavish Hawaiian buffet dinner of such Island favorite as kalua pork, laulau, teriyaki chicken, lomi salmon and poi in addition to the great musical entertainment.

A Hawaiian Boutique opens at 4:30 p.m., with no-host bar and dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The show is scheduled to get underway at 8 p.m.

Proceeds from the event go to a scholarship fund for senior citizens who are not able to pay for educational and specialized instructional classes, trips and special events.

Tickets may be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/107753.  For additional information call (925) 671-3419 or visit www.cityofconcord.org/hawaiianfusion.
