Concord's Tuesday Night Blues series begins July 6
Concord's free "Tuesday Night Blues" series in Todos Santos Plaza kicks off July 6 at 6:30 p.m. with Bay Area blues legend Maria Muldaur. The program continues through Aug. 3.
Maria Muldaur is making a stop in Concord fresh from tour dates in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan and on her way to Washington and Canada in support of her most recent album, "Garden of Joy: Good Time Music for Hard Times." The tracks offer a light-hearted take on the current financial crisis with several tunes from the Depression Era made new again. Muldaur is best known for the hit "Midnight at the Oasis."
A special performance by the Eyewitness Blues Band, musical troubadours from CBS5 TV and KCBS radio, comes to the plaza on July 13. The band includes TV and radio personalities Stan Bunger (KCBS, guitar), Zack Heene (CBS5, drums), Joe Vazquez (CBS5, vocals), Mike Sugerman (CBS5 and KCBS, guitar and vocals), Chris Detrick ("Citizen Journalist," guitar) and Doug Sovern (KCBS, bass).
On July 20, blues guitarist David "Liquid Heat" Landon is on the bill, followed July 27 by local blues band Delta Dogs. The series wraps up Aug. 3 with a National Night Out celebration featuring DVC's Rock, Rhythm & Blues and local favorite Annie Sampson.
