City Council appoints Barone interim City Manager

Valerie Barone has been unanimously selected by the Concord City Council as Concord’s Interim City Manager, to replace Dan Keen who has accepted the City Manager position with the City of Vallejo. Keen’s last day at the City will be February 10.

Barone has served as Concord’s Assistant City Manager since 2009.  As Assistant City Manager, Barone oversaw the Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Parks and Recreation, and Community and Economic Development departments, as well as assisting in the day-to-day administration of City operations.

Before coming to the City, she was the Community Development Director for the City of Walnut Creek for seven years.  Prior to working in Walnut Creek, Barone worked for the City of Milpitas starting as an associate planner in 1995 and leaving as director of Planning, Recreation and Neighborhood Services in 2002. Her work experience includes work in the private sector and a stint in the Peace Corps as a Community Development Specialist in the Philippine Islands. She holds a B.S. degree in Natural Resources Planning from Humboldt State and will be graduating with an MBA from Sacramento State University in March of 2012.
