Applications open for Concord Citizen Police Academy

The Concord Police Department is currently accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizen Police Academy. The academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement, giving an overview of the police department's function and operations.

The ten-week academy curriculum and teaching methodology embrace real examples of police work. However, the weekly sessions are not designed to train participants as police officers. While attending the academy, participants will be introduced to a variety of topics and training taught by police executives and veteran police officers, and will have the opportunity to meet with the Chief of Police and staff members.

This year's session is scheduled to begin Thursday, March 3. Classes will meet Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Concord Police Headquarters. A limited number of spaces remain for this session.

Candidate minimum requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Live or work in the Concord area.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application.

For more information and an application, visit www.cityofconcord.org/citizenacademy. Applications can also be obtained in person at the Concord Police Headquarters, 1350 Galindo St., in the front lobby. Applicants who are accepted to the program will be notified of their selection at least two weeks prior to the first meeting.
