Household Hazardous Waste

What can I do with all the jars and bottles of household chemicals I want to throw away? Don't throw those bottles in the trash or dump them in the side yard. Some of these bottles and cans may contain hazardous waste. Hazardous waste consists of substances that can poison, corrode, explode or ignite when handled improperly. They can threaten public health and the environment. It is illegal to dispose of these substances in the trash, on the ground, down household drains or storm drains.

Household chemicalsHere in Concord, we have a wonderful Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility. It is located at 4797 Imhoff Place adjacent to the county animal control shelter. This facility accepts household hazardous waste from residences for recycling. It is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge to Concord residents for this service and no appointment is necessary.
