Multi-family Complex Recycling in Concord
The City of Concord has partnered with Concord Disposal and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for a second year to roll out residential recycling programs at more multi-family complexes across the City. Concord's innovative outreach program involves communicating with tenants new to recycling on at least four separate occasions with picture-based information about which materials can be recycled and where to put them. After distributing outreach materials, staff visits each complex individually to talk with tenants face-to-face. Personal appeals coupled with multiple exposures to simple, clear graphics explaining the program have resulted in successful recycling programs. A variety of graphic materials are used for the rollouts:
- Door hangers
- Refrigerator magnets
- Toter stickers - containers
- Toter stickers - paper
Concord's innovative program was highlighted by the Northern California Recycling Association at their February 4, 2004 Annual Recycling Update.
