Environmental Pledge

 

Canvas BagWe face serious environmental challenges in our city, nation, and planet. Landfills are bulging with trash. Natural resources are being exhausted. Rivers and lakes are contaminated. Air is unhealthy. Soil is contaminated. People are getting sick. Species are becoming extinct. Global warming threatens everyone. Fortunately, there are many simple things that each of us can do to make the environment better.

Here is a list of some of the things you can do right now to reduce environmental damage. If you pledge to take at least five of these simple steps, you will receive a canvas bag to use when shopping instead of paper or plastic.*

*The canvas bag offer is available only to residents and businesses with addresses in the City of Concord. Limit of one bag to each family or address.

 

I pledge that I will do at least five of the following:

Avoid products with lots of packaging waste
Bring Tupperware to a restaurant for leftovers
Buy only recycled content paper products
Carpool and use public transportation
Change light bulbs to Compact Florescent Lights (CFLs)
Change to an efficient, low emission vehicle
Compost food scraps and yard waste
Eat locally grown food
Fly less
Install low flow toilets and low flow showerheads
Insulate your water heater
Line dry clothes
Never leave a light on in a room you leave empty
Only run your dishwasher when it is full
Plan your errands better so you drive less
Properly inflate your tires and maintain your car
Recycle
Remove your name from Junk mail lists
Ride your bike or walk instead of driving
Set your thermostat 2 degrees higher in the summer
Stop leaks in plumbing and around doors and windows
Take shorter showers and turn water off while soaping
Take your own bags when grocery shopping
Upgrade to energy-efficient appliances
Use a refillable water bottle not disposable bottles
Use less toxic cleaners
Use less toxic pesticide
