San Francisco Bay is impacted by mercury contamination. In order to prevent further pollution, the City of Concord has established several source control programs to keep pollutants originating in homes and small businesses out of the sewers and storm water runoff. Education is a key to the success of our source control program. People are less likely to pollute if they understand why toxic substances require proper disposal. The HHWCF, a partnership of the City of Concord and Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, provides residents with an easy solution for disposing of a wide variety of household toxic substances such as paint, solvents, cleaners, batteries, pesticides, used oil, and now, mercury thermometers.
