Summary
Joel Daniel Cortes was a Concord resident and a validated Sureno gang member. Joel was also an associate of the Sureno gangs from the Pittsburg, CA area.
On the night of January 5th, 2007, Joel was murdered after being brutally attacked and stabbed multiple times by 3 to 4 subjects while walking in the area of Lacey Ln and Tilson Dr. near Cambridge Elementary School in Concord. The motive for the attack and ultimately Joel’s death remains unknown.
Joel had recently learned that he was going to be a father and had spoken of his intentions to change his life for the better to family and friends. We are interested in justice for Joel and any assistance that can be provided to solve this violent crime will be helpful.

Possible Suspect Information
The suspects were only described as 3 to 4 unknown race males wearing dark clothing, one suspect being described as tall and thin and appearing to have long – curly, brown colored hair. A possible suspect vehicle was described as a white colored new model Nissan or similar compact vehicle possibly with tinted windows.
