There is always something to do at the Concord Police Department.

Whether you use your administrative skills, speaking skills, your love of children, or just having fun, you can serve your community through the V.I.P.S. program.

Neighborhood Patrol

Vacation house checks performed by volunteers!

As a volunteer, perform vacation house checks for the community.  In addition, neighborhood patrol members tag abandoned vehicles, handicapped parking violators, direct traffic, are certified emergency first responders, perform home security surveys, radar traffic, and many other special tasks.  You will wear a distinctive uniform and drive a specifically marked vehicle, complete with police radio and mobile computer.  Special training is provided for this exciting volunteer position.

Neighborhood WatchNeighborhood Watch

Working together, we are making a difference!

Neighborhoods want help in learning how to protect themselves and their property.

You can help by volunteering to teach them how to protect themselves and their neighbors through Neighborhood Watch.

You would conduct the first informational "Neighborhood Watch Group" meeting. 

Strong public speaking skills required.

VIPS Street Smart Workers"Street Smart" TV Show

Work behind the scenes of a weekly TV show!

The Concord Police Department produces an award-winning TV show, "Street Smart".

Twice a month officers host a live TV show to raise community awareness of police and city information and services. 

This is your chance to experience real-life TV production by volunteering to work behind the scenes. 

Opportunities are available in the control room, behind the cameras, and screening phone calls.


Fire suppressionDisaster Assistance

If disaster strikes our City, everyone will need to pull together to help each other get through the first few days.

Concord's Disaster Plan will go into affect and the Emergency Operations Center will come alive at the Police Headquarters when deemed necessary by the City Manager.  Your assistance could turn chaos into calm.

Be part of a team that would assist the City to operate efficiently should a major disaster strike Concord.

Teach pre-school children safety awareness

As a Concord Police Department volunteer, you can influence pre-school children to establish safety awareness early in their lives.  Use pre-approved visual aids and lesson plans that include traffic safety, stranger safety, home safety and appropriate use of 911.

Volunteers and the dog tourists!We love to show off the Concord Police Department facility!

Become a Concord Police Department volunteer tour guide and usher groups through this $18 million state-of-the-art facility. 

Highlighted areas are the Records Bureau, Jail, Communications Center, Briefing Room, and police cars.

Special Events

Every 15 minutesWant to have fun while making a difference?

If so, the Concord Police Department can use you! The police department sponsors many community-wide special events each year and they need your help. Critical projects are also supported by Volunteers in Police Services (V.I.P.S.) such as in the Monumental Toy Project, DARE programs for youth, Neighborhood Block Parties, Field Office Play Days and many more important activities. Help is needed in all areas of community events! If you like to get involved, help the Police Department, your friends, neighbors and fellow residents, volunteer for V.I.P.S.!

VolunteersStreet Fairs, Neighborhood Events, Block Parties

Represent the Concord Police Department at various community-wide events and functions.  Greet people, hand out literature, answer questions.  Good public relations position.

Monumental Toy Drive

Collect, wrap, and distribute holiday toys to needy area children.  This popular annual event is sponsored by the Concord Police Department Southern Field Office.

Creative Adventures

Your ticket to adventure and new ideas awaits you!

Speakers Bureau

Give presentations to community groups on various Concord Police Department subjects and activities.  Strong public speaking skills are a must.

Partnerships with other City departments

Foster new and enhance communications and programs with all City departments to form a truly effective City government team.

Oral Board

Participate as one of three members of a personnel board to select candidates for open police positions.

Administrative Duties

Barbara ConwayUse your administrative skills as a volunteer.

Positions such as statistical data entry (burglary crimes, crime scene data, program updates), fingerprinting, microfilming, filing and more. Additional training will be provided as necessary. Please join us.
Equipment and Alarms Assistant

Distribute materials and supplies, clean and supply patrol vehicles, make deliveries to District Field Offices, Civic Center, and assist Customer Service Officer iwith daily duties and errands.

Library Assistant

Maintain the Concord Police Department Library, process and locate new materials as they arrive, re-file documents and research new information

Records Bureau

learning CPRFile highly confidential case records and reports.  Purge and Microfilm old records.

Computer Entry

Enters confidential information in the Concord Police Department databases.  Perform routine information and statistics data entry.

Administrative Tasks

Assist administrative staff in various tasks such as filing, data entry, phone answering, miscellaneous clerical duties.

Traffic Bureau

Process criminal and traffic subpoenas and assist the Community Service Officer in administering bureau activities.  This may include towed and abandoned vehicles processing, statistics, filing, and scheduling. Review written citizen appeals of a citation and render disposition decisions and complete related reporting. Conduct in-person hearing with registered owners of vehicles who have appealed the towing and 30-day impound of their vehicles. Render decision and complete related reporting.

Badge ceremonyCommunity Action & Awareness

Prepare Crime statistics for the bi-weekly Street Smart television show. Perform miscellaneous clerical work

Crime Scene Investigation

Assist with duties such as filing of fingerprints, reports and data entry.
