Street Smart Show Previews
The Concord Police Department’s crime prevention show, “Street Smart,” is televised live at 7 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month on Comcast Cable Channel 28 and on Astound Broadband Channel 29, with each show highlighting a different neighborhood in the city.
Street Smart is hosted by Concord Police Officers and aims to educate and inform the viewers about the police department, crime-related issues, and items of civic interest. "Street Smart" is rebroadcast at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
During the summer months, “Street Smart” is rebroadcast at 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

February 7, 2008 - No. 196
On this week's show, Concord police Detective Matt Cain will talk about the department's Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT). Detective Timothy Elsberry also will be on to discuss the theft of copper and other recyclable metals.
In addition, the hosts will be taking a look at the Junior ROTC program in the high schools.
And this week, the program will be starting a new multi-part history series, "A Stroll Down Main Street."

Hosting tonight's "Street Smart" are officers Beth Long and Tamara Roberts of the Concord Police Department. The show's goal is to educate and inform viewers about the police department, crime-related issues and items of civic interest.
On this week's show, the hosts will feature Serendipity Restaurant, a HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations)/ROP Tech Prep Career Pathway of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. The restaurant, which has been a part of the school district for more than 20 years, is located on East Street on the campus of Mt. Diablo High School and is open to the public weekly for lunch.
New Concord Mayor Bill Shinn also will be on the show. Also on the show will be Julie Flowers from the city of Concord and Concord police Lt. Jim Lardieri, who will offer an update on the Monumental Toy Drive before Christmas.
And police Officer Greg Rodriguez will be discussing the department's firearms training program.

On this week’s show, Concord police Sgt. Mike Garmon from the Crimes Persons Unit will be discussing robbery safety. And Detective Jason Passama from the Concord Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit will be on discussing property crimes.
Elena Bicker, executive director of ARF, will be on the show to talk about the ARF programs and especially two upcoming fundraisers at the Lesher Center for the Arts — ARF Rocks on Friday, Jan. 4, and Stars to the Rescue on Saturday, Jan. 5.

On tonight’s show, Concord’s Recreation Program Manager Christopher Roke will be on to discuss swimming pool safety. Christopher will also talk about some of the summer-time activities scheduled at the Concord Community Park Pool (Cowell Pool).
We’ll also be speaking with representatives from The Concord Blue Devils, who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary. The Blue Devils offer young men and women between the ages of 7 and 21 quality educational and performance experiences in the areas of musical and dance performance.
Finally, Sergeant John Nunes and Police Volunteer Doug Schuster will be on to discuss the 10th Anniversary of the volunteer’s neighborhood patrol. They will also discuss an upcoming volunteer recruitment, as well as some summertime, vacation safety tips.

On tonight’s show, Karen Murdock will be on to discuss the upcoming “Kidfest” celebration coming to Todos Santos Park this Memorial Day weekend. Karen will fill us in on all of the activities planned for this special event.
We’ll also be speaking with Domestic Violence advocate Linda Graham. Linda will be discussing an upcoming, domestic violence training session. The training will address how faith communities can be more effective in helping those in their congregations that are experiencing domestic violence by utilizing resources in the community that are available to help.

Hosting tonight’s “Street Smart” show are Officer Ken Carlson and Officer Beth Long. The show’s goal is to educate and inform viewers about the police department, crime-related issues and items of civic interest.
On tonight’s show, we will be speaking with Concord Police Lt. Robin Heinemann. Lt. Heinemann will be discussing some of the new, ordinances that apply in several of the city’s parks, including Todos Santos Plaza.
We’ll also be speaking with Jim Forsberg, from the city’s Planning and Economic Development Department. Jim will be discussing a lot of the new businesses and development going on throughout Concord.
Our final guest will be Commissioner Ronald Creighton, the residing court Commissioner in Concord. Commissioner Creighton will be on to discuss a new program involving the suspension of driver license’s for certain speeding violations. He will also discuss the County’s, court website, which is full of useful, public information.

Hosting tonight’s “Street Smart” show are Officer Ken Carlson and Officer Renee Stevenson. The show’s goal is to educate and inform viewers about the police department, crime-related issues and items of civic interest.
On tonight’s show, we will be speaking with Amy Hodgett, Concord Housing Department Manager. Ms. Hodgett will be on to discuss the city’s “First time home buyer assistance” program.
We’ll also be speaking with Alicia Fairbanks and Stephanie Roberts regarding the city’s CARES after school program. The Mt Diablo CARES After School Program operates at most middle schools in the City of Concord. This program is collaboration between the City of Concord and the Mt Diablo Unified School District, which provides both academic and enrichment programs for youth and teen throughout the school year and summer.
Our final guest will be Concord police Volunteers Ken and Jan Carpoff. They will be on to discuss the many community outreach programs the Concord Police Volunteers work on.

On tonight’s show, Christopher Roke from the Concord Community and Recreation Department will be on to highlight Camp Concord.
Also appearing as a guest on Street Smart will be Scott Wallace from California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR). Wallace is a Chief Flight Nurse at CALSTAR, a regional, public, NON-PROFIT helicopter ambulance which greatly helps those in dire medical need when time is of the essence. Lastly, Tracey Steven-Martin from Contra Costa County Animal Services will be on the show to discuss the issue of pet emergency preparedness.

On tonight’s show, Dennis Costanza from the Community Youth Center (Concord Campus) will be on the show to highlight the numerous youth sports programs available for our children at the CYC.
Also appearing as a guest on Street Smart will be retired CPD Lieutenant Jim Alcorn. Jim is currently the CPD Volunteer Coordinator. He will be appearing to discuss the CPD Volunteers in Police Service program (VIPS) and highlighting some of their achievements. Lastly School Resource Officer Renee Stevenson will be on the show to discuss the issue of truancy.

On tonight’s show, newly elected Concord City Council member Michael Chavez will be appearing. Councilman Chavez is one of the members on the Redevelopment Agency and will be on to inform you of some of the important issues facing Concord.
Also appearing as a guest on Street Smart will be Leslye Asera. Ms. Asera works for the City of Concord in the Community Relations Department and will be on to discuss current revitalization issues regarding Todos Santos Park. And lastly Sgt. John Nunes will be appearing to discuss current Concord Police Department recruiting efforts.

On tonight’s show, Sgt. Russ Norris, Concord Police Department’s training coordinator, will be on to discuss the types of training our officers go through yearly.
Also appearing as a guest on Street Smart will be Officer Hollis Tong. Officer Tong will be on to discuss the recruitment efforts over the past year, along with some recruitment strategies for the future. The final guest on the show will be a representative from the Seneca Center’s Mobile Response Team. The Mobile Response Team, or MRT, provides services to children and adolescents in serious distress with immediate crisis intervention and short term mental health support. They will be on to let you know how you can get help or get someone you know who needs help, support.
