Mt. Diablo CARES After School Program
Mt. Diablo CARES After School Programs are a collaborative of the Concord Community & Recreation Services Department, Mount Diablo Unified School District, Ambrose Recreation and Park District, and Bay Area Community Resources. The programs provide enrichment, academic and support services for children and their families beyond the traditional school day.
The centers serve about 2,200 students at these school sites in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Bay Point and Pittsburg:

Each after school program runs 3 to 5 hours a day, five days a week throughout the school year and summer session. Activities include homework club, reading and math tutorial, interest-based classes, sports and games, computers, cooking, dance, drama, arts and crafts, music, science, gardening, expanded learning opportunities, Junior Achievement, violence prevention curriculum, teambuilding, conflict mediation, counseling, service club, parent education, family nights and special events.
Program Goals
- Afterschool students will improve their academic performance.
- Afterschool students will be provided with a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.
- Afterschool students will develop life skills, including leadership and appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity.
- Afterschool students will successfully engage in nutrition, fitness and enrichment activities.
- Families of Afterschool students will have multiple opportunities to participate in literacy and educational development activities.
Recreation After School Program (RAP)
RAP is an afterschool program for young teens at Pine Hollow Middle School. Students help plan the programs with the teachers from the schools who staff the program.
