The Concord Parks & Recreation Department is once again offering day trips, guided tours, and travel programs for seniors. Club membership is NOT required! Our trips are open to all adults 50 & better.stock photo of traveling seniors

Day Trips

Day Trips are travel programs that don't require an overnight stay. Payment must be made in full at the time of registration. Roundtrip transportation for Day Trips from the Concord Senior Center will be provided on a commercial motor coach. The motor coach is ADA accessible and features a restroom on board. Please plan to park in the East parking lot (2nd parking lot) at the Concord Senior Center.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Read the descriptions of the travel program. Determine if the mobility rating is appropriate for your physical fitness level and health.

  • Level 1: At a leisurely pace, this trip involves minimal physical activity, such as boarding a motor coach, light walking (only up to a few city blocks), and short periods of standing. This level would be wheelchair, cane, and walker accessible.
  • Level 2: This trip may require some periods of standing and light walking along stairs, inclines, and uneven surfaces. This trip would likely not be accessible for wheelchairs, canes, or walkers.
  • Level 3: This trip may require substantial periods of walking and standing, sometimes on uneven terrain or stairs. This trip would not be accessible for wheelchairs, canes, or walkers.

3 Ways to Register for Day Trips:

  1. Online: Click on the TITLE of the trip you'd like to attend to register. You will need to create an account on our registration site if you do not already have one.
  2. By Phone (M-F, 10am-12pm & 1-3pm): Call the Registration Office at 925-671-3404.
  3. In Person: Visit any one of our community centers to register and pay in person:
    • Concord Senior Citizens Center (M-F, 9am-4pm)
    • Centre Concord (M-F, 10am-12pm & 1-3pm)
    • Willow Pass Center (M-F, 10am-12pm & 1-3pm)

SOLD OUT & WAITLIST

If a trip is sold out, a waitlist will be formed. If there’s a cancellation, Senior Center staff will contact interested travelers on the waitlist with more information.

TRIP MINIMUMS

Trips may need to be canceled up to 30 days in advance if minimums are not met. Help us spread the word about upcoming trips to avoid potential cancellations.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

As a result of the passenger minimums, refunds will not be permitted within 30 days of a day trip. Refunds must be requested at least 30 days before a trip departure date. Refunds will be subject to a $5 cancellation fee. Trips are rain or shine.

MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM

Playful sea otters. Flashy fishes. Mesmerizing jellies. Graceful under-water African Penguins. Swirling sardines. Colorful leopard sharks. Zebra moray eels, and more. You will delight in exploring the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s exhibits and learn more about their resident ocean animals. Your self-guided visit will carry you into the hidden world of Monterey Bay – a place of ever-changing beauty at the heart of the nation’s largest marine sanctuary which holds thousands of plants and animals. More than a hundred galleries and exhibits recreate the bay’s many habitats, from shallow tide pools to the vast open ocean. During the day, spend lunch time at their Café or venture out on Cannery Row and choose from a variety of restaurants offered in the area. After lunch you can always re- enter the museum for further exploration or enjoy shopping and browsing on Cannery Row.

GRAND ISLAND MANSION

This Italian Renaissance Style Villa located in Walnut Grove provides a feast for the eyes, as well as a full service Brunch buffet. Built in the 1920's, with beautiful gardens and statuary through-out, this mansion played host to such luminaries as President Franklin D. Roosevelt, actress Greta Garbo and mystery writer Erle Stanley Gardner. Distinctive touches throughout the mansion still reflect its star-studded past, such as the private movie theater and closets in the ladies' lounge named for Hollywood stars of the day. With your delicious Brunch, you will have time to enjoy a self-guided walk through the accessible parts of the Villa.

Extended Travel programs require overnight stays while traveling domestically or internationally. A booklet may be picked up at the Concord Senior Center with registration details and full itineraries for each destination.
