Nov. 20, 2023 - Shop Concord Relaunches Gift Card Program
The City of Concord and the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce have relaunched the popular Shop Concord e-gift card program to support the city’s small businesses by encouraging residents to shop locally over the Thanksgiving weekend and into the winter holiday season. Shop Concord helps local businesses increase their sales while also benefiting consumers and providing a boost to the local economy.

The City of Concord is accepting applications for the Fall 2023 session of the Concord Community Academy – a program designed for people who live, work or own a business in Concord to learn more about the City. June 20, 2023 - Concord City Council Votes to Become MCE's Newest
On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the Concord City Council voted unanimously to opt the City's facilities into MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable energy service option. With this action, the City is expected to eliminate 2,729 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to taking 607 cars off the road.

Dec. 7, 2022 - Hoffmeister Selected as Concord’s New Mayor
At the Dec. 6 Concord City Council meeting, outgoing Mayor Dominic Aliano turned over the gavel to Vice Mayor Laura Hoffmeister after she was selected by fellow councilmembers as the City’s mayor for 2023. Councilmember Edi Birsan was selected to serve as vice mayor for the year ahead.

Sept. 12, 2022 - Contra Costa Cities Win Award for Behavioral Health Program
At its statewide conference last week, the League of California Cities announced the winners of the prestigious Helen Putnam Award for Excellence in 2022. The award is given annually in 12 categories, with the partnership among all 19 cities and towns in Contra Costa County and Contra Costa Health (CCH) receiving the Award for Intergovernmental Collaboration for the Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime (A3) behavioral health crisis response initiative.

Sept. 6, 2022 - Concord Welcomes New Assistant City Attorney
Concord City Attorney Susanne Brown announced the hiring of Michelle Bethge as Assistant City Attorney, effective September 6, 2022. Since 2014, Ms. Bethge has served as an attorney for the California Department of Industrial Relations, most recently for Cal/OSHA.

July 12, 2022 - Concord to Hold By-District Election on November 8
Nomination papers for seats on the Concord City Council in Districts 1, 3, and 5 and City Treasurer will be available by appointment starting Monday, July 18.
To be eligible to run for City Council, a candidate must be a resident of Concord and a registered voter in the District of the office sought at the time nomination papers are issued. The Treasurer is an at-large position, and a candidate must be a resident of Concord and a registered voter at the time nomination papers are issued.

Aug. 16, 2021 - City, County Partner to Provide Free Vaccines Through Mobile Clinic
The City of Concord has partnered with Contra Costa Health Services and Brenden Theatres to bring an on-site COVID-19 vaccination service to Todos Santos Plaza on Thursday, August 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the City’s Music & Market concert series. Everyone who receives their vaccination at the mobile clinic on August 19 will also be given one free movie ticket courtesy of Brenden Theatres.

July 7, 2021 - Concord Names Justin Ezell as Assistant City Manager
Concord’s Public Works Director Justin Ezell has been named the new Assistant City Manager for the City of Concord, the largest city in Contra Costa County. In his new role, Ezell will assist City Manager Valerie Barone in leading the organization as a whole, and he will specifically oversee three departments, including the City Manager’s Office, Parks and Recreation, and Information Technology.

Dec. 9, 2020 - Concord City Council Certifies Election Results
The Concord City Council on Tuesday voted to certify the results of the Nov. 5, 2020 general election. During the annual transition meeting, the Council typically rotates the Vice Mayor into the Mayor’s role and selects a new Vice Mayor. This year, instead of rotating these roles, the Council approved Vice Mayor Dominic Aliano’s motion to retain Tim McGallian as Mayor for the year ahead.

Sept. 30, 2020 - Concord to Reopen Playgrounds Oct. 1
Under the new State guidelines announced this week, the City of Concord will be reopening its 19 playgrounds on Thursday, Oct. 1. Public Works staff is inspecting and preparing all playgrounds today, and installing new signage indicating usage rules designed to keep people safe from the spread of COVID-19.

July 29, 2020 - City Council Places Measure Q Extension on November Ballot
The Concord City Council voted unanimously (5-0) to place a local revenue extension measure for voter consideration on the November 2020 ballot. If enacted by voters, the measure would extend the City’s existing, voter-approved Measure Q local funding at a one-cent rate to maintain fiscal stability and continue addressing priorities identified by the public.

June 12, 2020 - City Ordinance Eases Restrictions on Local Businesses
The Concord City Council on Tuesday night adopted an urgency ordinance approving the Concord Forward Action Plan, which authorizes the temporary suspension of certain municipal codes and temporarily waives some fees in an effort to support local businesses that have been impacted by the months-long shelter-in-place order.

This Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, the County Veterans Services Office, in partnership with the City of Concord, will be hosting its 7th Annual Veterans Day Invitational Softball Tournament at Willow Pass Park.
