[ARCHIVED] Senior Center is Cooling Center on Hot Days

The Concord Senior Center is a designated Cooling Center when temperatures rise above 100 degrees.

Older adults are vulnerable to heat illness, especially if they have heart disease or high blood pressure or take medications for depression or insomnia.

The Concord Senior Center, located at 2727 Parkside Circle in John Baldwin Park, offers a lounge area for seniors to cool off from the high temperatures.

Cooling Center hours are:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors are invited to bring an activity as well as their own snacks and drinks. The center has a lending library with books and magazines for those who would like to read while taking a break from the heat.

Residents are also encouraged to visit the Concord Community Pool and the spray park. The spray park is open from 12-6 p.m. during the summer and from 3-6 p.m. on school days in August and September, beginning Thursday, August 15. Pool hours can be found here.

Remember to stay indoors and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, even if you do not feel thirsty.  For more information about staying cool on hot days, or to find a cooling center in Contra Costa County call 1-800-510-2020 or 925-229-8434, or visit their website.
